A short history
The UK Cyber Team’s story began in 2015, when the team first competed at the European Cyber Security Challenge (ECSC) under the guidance of the now-retired Cyber Security Challenge UK.
From 2015 to 2019, “Team UK” quickly established itself as a formidable competitor dominating ranking in the Top 10 and achieving a historic 3rd place finish at the 2018 competition held in London. These years were marked by determination, skill, and the forging of strong relationships across Europe, as the team became a respected presence within the ECSC community.
ECSC 2025
Representing the UK on the European Stage
In October 2025, the UK Cyber Team travelled to Warsaw, Poland to compete in the European Cyber Security Challenge (ECSC), the continent’s most prestigious cyber competition hosted by the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA).
Over four days of intense competition against 38 national teams, the UK placed 20th in the Jeopardy-style round and 21st in the Attack Defence round, achieving an impressive 22nd overall out of 40 countries. This marks an extraordinary milestone for a team that has only been training together for seven months.
A standout moment saw one UK team member capture the first flag of the entire competition in just four minutes, a remarkable feat that set the tone for a committed and determined performance. The competition tested a broad range of technical disciplines from web exploitation and forensics to reverse engineering and cryptography under high pressure, real-world conditions.
This event marked the culmination of everything the team has been working towards, bringing together months of training, collaboration and preparation. Beyond the scoreboard, the UK Cyber Team stood out for its professionalism, teamwork and resilience, earning recognition from international peers for their collaborative spirit and rapid progression.
